Agadir, the capital of the Sous-Massa-Draa economic region and the Agadir Province is a major city located in southwest Morocco. Agadir was just a fishing village during medieval times. The Portuguese established a trading post named Santa Cruz do Cabo de Gué in 1505, under a governor. The city came under Wattasid control in 1541 and in 1572 a stronghold was built on the top of the hill overlooking the bay, the Kasbah.
