On Wednesday the announcement came from the staff of Kenya airways union that they are going on an air strike. The reason behind the strike is the dispute which is based on the pay distribution of the air staff. Union has warned that if this air strike would continue for a long time, economy of South Africa would cripple in the aviation industry. The industry is going to pay a very huge amount if the demands of the workers are not fulfilled to their expectations.
The Allied Workers Union and Kenya Aviation (AAWU) said that they have issued the notice regarding the start date of industrial action next Wednesday. This news came out after the failure of the talks to resolve the pay disputes with the country’s national carrier, Kenya Airways. More than 5000 members of the airways union could join the strike and the workers of the other airlines too.
Kenya airways this month rejected the new salary plans from the workers which would increase the extra financial load on the airport managerial board.The extra Burdon of the increased finance would be near about KES325 million shillings. Under the agreement the new salaries would be from backdate of October 2009 but now the union wants the salary to be backdated by 15 months which is not real and illegal.
